The plastics industry is moving towards circularity with additivation solutions

Clúster Mav,

The IQS hosted on Thursday, September 18, the day "Additivation of plastics: sustainability and recycling", organized by the CEP, the MAV cluster and the IQS. A meeting point for companies, research and administration centers with the aim of analyzing the challenges and opportunities offered by the use of additives in the transition to a circular economy of plastics.

The session opened with the welcome of Dra. Núria Vallmitjana (IQS Tech Transfer), who emphasized the importance of collaboration between research and industry to advance sustainability. Maria Vidal then offered a global view on the current state and future perspectives, emphasizing regulatory changes and the need to bet on eco -design and circularity.

The first part of the day gave voice to companies who work directly with the revaluation and improvement of recycled materials. Manuel Miret (Delta Tecnic) exposed color and additive solutions for PVC and polyolefin recycling, showing how additives can improve their quality and durability. Loïc Cuba (opmobility) presented the challenges of recycled polypropylene in exterior automotive pieces, highlighting the viability of replacing virgin material with recycled compounds without losing performance. Finally, Arnau Martori (Prewaste/Walue) explained circularity projects that transform low quality waste into value -added products, with a clear environmental and social impact.

After the pause, the day continued with experiences in R&D projects. Núria Agulló and Joan Arbusà (IQS & Gloo) presented the Recyval project, focused on the circularity of the thermosable composites, one of the great challenges pending recycling. Then Míriam Vayà (Comindex) showed how specific additives can provide stability, compatibility and added value to recycled polyiofins, opening up new market opportunities.

The session culminated in a round table moderated by Pablo Tamarit (Citsalp), where industry representatives and research discussed the challenges and opportunities for plastics additive. The need to align innovation, regulation and market were emphasized to make recycled plastics a real and competitive option.

The closing was given by Ona Bombí, Cluster Manager del Mav, who emphasized the success of the day and the importance of continuing to work collaboratively to put the Catalan sector at the forefront of the sustainable transformation of the materials.

You will find the different presentations of the session in the Resource section (only accessible for members).
